8/25/07 16lb Redfish on Topwater Bait!

I had the pleasure of fishing with Donald Stocks of PIP printing this morning. The weather was absolutely perfect for sightcasting to reds in the backwaters. On our first stop we found several schools of big redfish pushing water in less than 2ft. We worked topwater baits and gulp shrimp on 1/8oz heads and were able to hook-up about 9 fish. I wish today was a tourny as we managed two reds at exactly 27in. with an aggregate weight of almost 14lbs. Donald never had the fortune, until today, of catching a redfish. Not only did we have an awsome bite but he managed to land a 16lb Redfish on a Topdog! Congratulations on your first redfish Harriett! We moved on and found a few more reds and flounder working some boatdocks on the low tide and headed back to the dock around noon. Capt. Jeff Cronk/ FISH'N4LIFE/ jcronk@ec.rr.com

8/21/07 CITATION 10.47lb SHEEPSHEAD!

This afternoon I had Chris Johnson aboard again with his two sons for a late afternoon trip. We picked up a mess of live shrimp and disappeared into some creeks in search of some hard fighting sheepshead. We set anchor along a deep shelly bottom and began working live shrimp on slip corks back to some structure. On his second cast Chris hooked up and landed a 7lb Sheepshead which kicked off the bite. We worked the spot for about 45min. and hooked up 5 big sheepshead of which we landed 4. We got a 10.47lb, 7lb, 5.67lb, and a 3.5lb sheepshead before we moved on to look for some flounder. Congratulations on the your Citation Sheepshead Chris! Capt. Jeff Cronk/ Fish'n4life/ jcronk@ec.rr.com

8/18/07 Monster Backwater Reds and plenty of Black Drum!

This morning I had Chris Johnson and crew aboard for a few hours of fishing in the backwaters. We switched things up today and worked live shrimp under slip corks and it really payed off. We wound up landing about a dozen black drum ranging from 1.5 to 4lbs, 13 redfish with the largest at about 12lbs., a 2lb speckled trout, and a 6 lb sheepshead. Great job guys... if you have the rest of the pics from the trip please email them to me and I'll add them to the report.

AUG. 11-12 Steady Flounder Action- Fish to 4lbs.

Sat. Aug. 11 Mike Baker and family onboard celebrating his wife's birthday with a fishing trip. We got lucky as the N. Wind that blew on Friday late afternoon/evening was strong enough to lay down some of the SW swell that built up on Thursday and Friday. We were able to get out the inlet and conditions were decent with an overcast sky and cool air. We tried our luck on some big spanish but with only one hook-up in about 45min. we decided to switch over to bottom bouncing for Flounder. We fished several areas within 4 miles of the beach and there were flounder on all of them. The bite was steady and these guys wound up boating 20 flounder with 14 keepers between 1.5 and 4lbs. We even got lucky enough to land a 7lb grouper about 2 miles off the beach while jigging a bucktail tipped with a Berkley Gulp Alive shrimp. Great job guys/gals... Congrats on your 4lb birthday flounder Mrs. Baker!
Sun. Aug 12 Sophia Devan along with her Father, Tony, and her boyfriend on this morning. We headed back out to work over the flounder again today. It was slow to start but we found some flounder about an hour into it. We fished until about 10:30 and brought 11 flounder to the net and missed another nice fish. We kept 8 good sized fish with one near 4lbs and released the smaller fish along with about a half dozen grouper just undersized. Another great morning on the water... Oh Yeah... Sophia.... try to stay off those deserted islands..... and Billy.... good job on getting your boat to the lift before it went down.... (ps. fix that pump and radio).
Sun. Aug 12 (ROUND 2) Well, back out the inlet around 1pm with good friends Dave and Chuck Krick on. We fished about 3hours and put up half a dozen flounder with the largest at 3lbs 9oz. and threw a few back. Dave, sorry that grouper was just undersize... I know it hurts to have to toss back a 5lb fish... don't worry... we'll catch'em when he gets bigger.

Also,,, thanks to those of you that let me know Roland Martin's television aired this weekend featuring Topwater Reddrum Fishing aboard Fish'n4life here in Swansboro. We filmed that last October and I wasn't sure when it would show. It'll probably show again soon.. it came on Versus (ch26) on Time Warner Cable if anyone would like to see a mess of topwater redfish explosions in our area... You might even be able to tell where we were fishing....

8/5/07 Big Spanish and Big Grouper on Spin Tackle!

8/5/07 One of my good friends, Dave Krick, from back in the day (college) is in town from California. We loaded up the cooler and filled the livewell with pogies and fingermullet and took advantage of the calm conditions again today. We got on another school of large Spanish Macks this morning... most ranging from 2.5 to 4.5lbs and kept a mess before moving on to work some grouper on spin tackle. The only problem is the grouper were way too big to be pulling out of the bottom on 40lb braid. We boated several nice grouper with one BIG'N and then had several other break us off... killing the bite! We stopped to pick up a flounder for the plate and headed back to the dock around 2pm. Beautiful day on the water. Capt. Jeff Cronk

8/4/07 Big Spanish and Flounder...

6hr Trip with Bobby K. and crew from Shallotte on today looking for Spanish and Flounder. The big Spanish were a little picky today with the slick calm conditions. We had to continually chum them up with live baits. But the action was steady throughout the first few hours of the morning and we had a bunch of knock downs and managed to boat 9 spanish with 8 big ones from 2.5 to 4.5lbs and a small king. We moved on and found some flounder willing to bite and landed 11 flounder with 7 ranging from 1.75lbs to 3.75lbs. Great job guys! It was very enjoyable fishing with you. Capt. Jeff Cronk

7/29 Lots of Topwater Redfish!

This morning I had Lee and Jason onboard and we headed out early looking for some Redfish that would cooperate on the Topwater baits. It started very slow with only 1 bluefish during the first hour. Then, we found a school of about 30 to 40 Redfish working a shallow grassflat along the back of a bay. It was instant strikes and hook-ups with 22 to 26in Reds using topwater baits. The action lasted for about an hour before the tide dropped out too low and the fish moved on. We moved on and found a school of smaller 19 to 20in fish that were willing to hit Berkley Gulp Pogies on 1/16oz. Jigheads. Great morning... calm conditions allowing us to sightcast to these fish... and we managed about 20 surface strikes and hook-ups. We landed 10 reds and Jason got his 1st Redfish ever today. Super Job guys! Capt. Jeff Cronk- FISH'N4LIFE- 910-326-7512- jcronk@ec.rr.com

7/28/07 More Large Spanish and Kings!-

Well, this morning the weather was calm and we crossed our fingers that the spanish would still be holding on the live bottom we caught them on yesterday. Well, we lucked out.... We fished for several hours and had upwards of 25 large Spanish Strikes and boated a bunch of 3 to 5lb fish and sight cast to a few smaller ones. We also found a couple of nice size kings. These guys were very good anglers and did a good job fighting these hard hitting, fast running Spanish.

Thanks guys, Capt. Jeff Cronk- FISH'N4LIFE CHARTERS- 910-326-7512

7/27/07 Kings and Big Spanish Mackerel!

Well, I had Eddie Games and his crew onboard again today and this morning we got into an incredible bite on the large Spanish Mackerel and a nice size King. The Spanish ranged from 2.5lbs to about 5+lbs and there were kings in the teens mixed in. We must have had over 30 knock downs from large spanish this morning using live fingermullet on very light wire and slow trolling to keep the baits alive and moving. Great Job Guys! I look forward to having you onboard again next year. Thanks again,
Capt. Jeff Cronk
