1/4/08 Swansboro Redfish and Speckled Trout!
Well, today was a repeat of the past few days. With Tony Turner's group onboard we eased out in the dark heading out to our first spot. Alot of reds have come inside the backwaters with the last few days of warming weather. Just a few minutes into looking... we found a school of Reds and over the course of three hours we caught and released about 30 Redfish. We tried for some trout today and although we didn't get the numbers we had yesterday, we did land a couple of nice trout between 2 and 2.5lbs. Enjoyed having you onboard today guys!
After our trip was over, I went back out on the water scouting some more and taking advantage of the absolute slick conditions... I ran out along the beach and suprisingly, the surf had settled down to "cam" conditions. Although there was no sun, the water clarity was gin clear and I was able to run the surf and locate two large schools of Redfish. I played with them for a few minutes and wore My arm out fighting a mess of them before heading back into the backwaters. The water was very clear around Bear Inlet in the internal waters and I was able to see some speckled trout between 1 and 3lbs along the channel walls along Sander's Channel and surrounding Creeks. There was also a 1/4mile long school of 3 to 4in.. menhaden stretched from Bear Inlet all the way into Sanders Channel and another massive school in the ICW where Hammock's Beach Channel turns off. This is the most shad I've ever seen in the internal waters during January.
