12/30/08 Shallow Backwater Reds!

Today I had some regular clients, the Blacksheares, onboard for some Post Christmas fishing. The temperatures have been very warm for a week ranging from the upper 50's to 70 degrees. Some schools of reds have moved into the backwaters from the inlets and have been feeding pretty good. This morning we managed to find several schools of reds with the largest school of over 100 fish in a foot or less of water working a mud flat. We were able to land 21 reds, 1 speckled trout about 2 lbs., and a 2 lb. black drum by 1pm today and then called it a day. Great job today guys... awsome bite for late December in the shallow backwaters of Swansboro. The cold front upon us should move these fish back to the surf....
