Capt. Mike Taylor and I fished Redfish Action's 2nd tournament of their Cape Lookout Redfish Challenge Series this Sat. July 26th. As usuall we fished from one of our 2008 24ft Ranger Bay Boats. With a tournament fish time from 6am and ending at 4pm we decided to fish Swansboro for a half day and Morehead City waters for a half day. What turned out to be an incredible day of tournament fishing began about 1/2 into our scouting. We located a large school of redfish and followed them for a long distance. Over the course of several hours we managed to land 45 redfish from 23in. to 31in. and Capt. Mike caught our largest redfish at exactly 27in. (compressed tail) which weighed 7.87lbs. The perfect tournament redfish! We backed that fish up with a 26 7/8in redfish that weighed 6.74lbs. We moved into the backwaters of Morehead City hoping to upgrade our smalle fish with a fish of heavier weight but after catching another 15 fish in those waters we decided to stick with the two fish we already had. It turned out to be a good decision as we arrived to the scales to find that our 14.61lb aggregate took 1st place in the main event and Mike's 7.87lb redfish took 1st Place in the big fish TWT. What an awsome day of tournament fishing! Both Mike and I would like to thank our sponsors for all their support. A big thank you is due to Collin's Inc., Ranger Boats, Berkley/Pure Fishing, Graphics by Sign Language, AB Surf Shop, Dudley's Marina, Coastal Carolina Furniture, and Sea Lake Maps. We'de also like to say thanks to Capt. Lee Willis of Redfish Action for hosting such a great event. Congratulations to all the anglers that managed to weigh in redfish, especially those fishing outside of their home waters! Congrats to Team R and D as they are currently in the lead for the year in this series! Just a reminder that the CCFA redfish series 2nd tournament is coming up on Aug. 9th.
