1/27/08 EXCELLENT DAY! Redfish and Trout!

SWEEEEEET! Gotta love it when a plan comes together. God that phrase brings back TV memories... Anyway, enough rambling... I know ya'll just want info and pics! I left out early this morning with Eric and John Evenson onboard and bundled up for the cold. Yikes, it took over an hour for the ice to thaw off the boat... These boys were extremely carefull as we were constantly maneuvering around the boat with consistent hook-ups on both Redfish and Speckled Trout this morning. We were heading toward the inlet shoals and stopped off in a purrty spot in the backwaters to work a school of drum... we lucked out and picked up 8 redfish up to 23in. and 2 speckled trout between 2 and 2.7lbs. We lost another 3lb trout that struck John's bait while lifting the bait out of the water. The creeks behind the barrier islands will often hold these small schools of fish throughout the Winter months. Try scaling down your baits and going with scent in the backwaters during Winter... We've been tossing strictly 3in and 4in. Berkley Gulp baits all Winter for over 4 seasons now. Anyway, the backwater bite slowed and we slid out the inlet near-by and found a school of about 2000 redfish of which we spent almost 2hrs with single, double, and a few triple hook-ups. These were big reds and we had trouble getting a few slot sized fish to keep. Most of these fish were 28 to 34in. and 8 to 12lbs. They got spooked as too many boats moved in on us. So, we lifted anchor and took off, looking for more fish. 10min. later we found a massive school with upwards of 5000 redfish. These were 20 to 25in. fish and they just about had there backs out of the water... we spent about an hour working them over until we had our fill. Another absolutely awsome day out of Dudley's Marina with almost 50 reds and a few specs... Thanks Guys... very fun having you onboard, as usual. See ya again soon,
