4/24 River Fishing Today! Inshore Slam!

Today's crew opted for some River Fishing. Jim really wanted to catch a nice speckled trout. We covered some water today and the action was a little off.... along with the weatherman's forecast... The wind was tough today but we were able too pull a decent trip together. We wound up landing 5 speckled Trout with Jim's largest at just over 3lbs, several flounder of which we kept 1 at a couple pounds, a couple redfish... and wouldn't you guess... Jim caught the big one at 26in. and almost 7lbs... no striper today but we played with a few big Alligator Gar to toss some extra excitment in on a slow day. Thanks again Guys! And Congrats on that Inshore Slam! Let's hit it hard again soon! and send me those pics when you get a chance...

4/23 The Afternoon Blues!

This afternoon I had the Taylor Crew onboard from Odessa, Washington. Kathy had lived here for a few years a while back and had never had the chance to fish the waters... So, we introduced her to some non-stop April bluefish action in the backwaters. They had a ball with the light tackle and blues up to 2.5lbs.... Surprisingly, after sightingseeing a few rays in the shallows... and joking about how hard it was to fight one of these critters... Kathy had one smoke her drag while we were trolling some shallow diving lures for blues.... She fought it for a while and managed to land the 25lb Ray on 10lb test Berkley Fireline... This is some tough line folks! We even managed to find a pod of Porpoises that the group was hoping to photograph... Very enjoyable afternoon on the water! See you guys again soon.

House Bill H918 The Gamefish Act...

Please Support House Bill H918 THE GAME FISH ACT. The Coastal Fisheries Reform Group along with several other organizations has helped create this Bill which hopes to gain Gamefish Status to NC's Redfish and Speckled Trout. NC is behind all of Nation in regards to managing these fish populations. This Bill would force better management, improve our stocks, and ensure that the 1/2million recreational anglers in the state along with the untold numbers of anglers that vacation here have the chance to enjoy better numbers of these species and for generations to come. This would end many of our overfishing problems related to commercial gillnets in our Primary Nursery Areas. Click on this Link, http://cfrgnc.blogspot.com/

THE BLOG CONTAINS LINKS TO THE EMAIL ADDRESSES OF ALL THE REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS IN YOUR DISTRICT. IF YOU ARE IN SUPPORT OF H918, PLEASE, PLEASE EMAIL YOUR REP.'S AND SENATORS REQUESTING THEIR SUPPORT... FEEL FREE TO OPEN UP AND LET THEM KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. THEY NEED TO KNOW. THESE INDIVIDUALS VOTING ON YOUR BEHALF KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT THE ISSUES WE FACE EVERYTIME WE ARE ON THE WATER... WE NEED THIS BILL PASSED!

Swansboro Specs and bottomfish.

4/17/09 I had Craig C., Kevin C., and Michael H. onboard this morning. The wind was still kicking pretty good, making the backwaters tough to fish so, we eased out along the beach on some hard bottom and spent a few hours with non-stop action jigging bottomfish. We culled through hundreds of fish and kept a mess of Seabass, bluefish, and hogfish. The wind eased up a little so we changed things up a little and moved into the backwaters hoping for some Redfish or Speckled Trout. First spot was a negative.... second spot was the ticket. We got into a good trout bite in 5 to 10ft of water that lasted just over an hour until the tide stopped. We hooked up with about 13 specs, had a couple pull the hooks on the way to the net, and tossed back a couple small ones. We wound up keeping 8 trout with the largest at 3lbs. Great job guys...! See ya again soon.

4/5/09 Backwater Bronzebacks in the Boro!

What an absolutely beautiful Day today... after the Sat. Winds passed... this Sunday morning was gorgeous! We had about 3hrs this morning without a breeze. I left Dudley's with John Curr's group attempting to locate some redfish in the shallow backwater flats. It took us a couple of hours to find a good school of backwater redfish today but, we lucked out and spent several hours catching and releasing reds from 22in. to 25in. We boated about 18 reds and had another 5 or 6 pull the hooks. These were beautiful bronze backs. John landed one redfish that had 60 Non-connected spots with 34 on one side and and 24 on the other. They were striking just about any Gulp Bait we tossed.
