11/18 Swansboro Clear Water Sightcasting for Redfish! Great Day!

Sunday Trip- I left the dock this morning with Dave Roska and crew attempting to scour the surf for redfish. We covered miles of beach before locating a decent school of about 500 reds. We worked them for a while... having to constantly relocate them due to a dirty surf. Later, we moved into the skinny backwater flats in search of some sightcasting opportunities. Shortly into it we found some head water which turned out to be a couple hundred reds from 18in to 26in. They were spooky due to the extreme low water but, we hunkered down and waited them out. a short wait and a 6in rise in water and they began eating. We followed this school through the bay for quite a while, landing a few each time they layed down to rest on a new spot. What started out as a cold morning turned out to be very productive day hooking up with close to 20 redfish. Great work Guys!

11/27 Sight Casting to Large Schools of Redfish!

Folks, I had regular client, Casey Anderson and his father onboard this morning... We had a great time sight casting to a school of about 400 redfish ranging from 5lbs to 10lbs. These fish were in crystal clear water and were fighting over the baits! Every cast into the school produced good hook ups. We had about half a dozen pull the hooks and landed about 25 slot fish with some 26in fish weighing well over 7lbs! Excellent day on the water! Great job guys! This action will continue all of December. We're also catching some flounder nearshore... and a lot of smaller trout with some decent keepers in the backwaters. Hello Folks, Sorry Mike and I haven't been online in a while... we were experiencing some website technical difficulties regarding our blog. Problems are finally resolved! Well, in short, since the beginning of August fishing around the Swansboro area has been great! The hurricane and tropical storms have only helped out the inshore bite bringing many fish in from the ocean with the big surge of water. We've been doing well on the redfish, flounder, black drum, and in the past month the speckled trout have even showed up in decent numbers. Below are a few pics from the past month.... and as soon as Capt. Mike gets his computer up and running we'll see more of his pics.... Fall and early Winter fishing is always phenomenal for flounder, speckled trout, and plenty of Redfish in our backwaters.... the ocean is usually holding plenty of Flounder,Kings, large sharks, and reds along the surf... Hello Folks, we've been having a ball aboard FISH'N4LIFE lately. Our nearshore waters have been producing plenty of large 3 to 6lb Spanish Mackerel, some 10 to 20lb King Mackerel, and plenty of Flounder. The inshore waters are holding plenty of small pods of redfish and a few large schools. We're doing well on both artificial and live baits. 7/30 Inshore Redfishing! This morning I had Harry, his son, and friend Chris onboard in search of backwater redfish. We started out strong with a 26in redfish and 2 lb flounder within the first few casts on our first stop.... second stop produced a 21in puppydrum on Berkley's new Pearl White Shrimp with Chartreuse tail. Our third stop was a skunk but, a little wiggling through some marshes and a small, shallow bay showed us a good school of reds. We wound up landing 17 Reds and 3 flounder during this 4hr trip. Back at the dock around 11am and ready for lunch! What a hot morning! Great job guys!

7/29 We hit the water early this morning with the Jackson group onboard and shot out the inlet in search of some Flatties! After the first few stops we steadily picking away at the flat fish. About 3hrs later we were heading back to the dock to clean up some fish. Wound up landing 17 flounder up to 4lbs. Great job today on your first flounder Carrie!

Swansboro Fishing is On Fire! 46 3/4lb King!

I left the dock this morning, 7/11 with Bill B. and his family aboard for some nearshore fishing targeting big Spanish and Kings. We had a fun day and landed a bunch of Spanish Mackerel from 3 to 6lbs and several Kings. The catch of a lifetime goes out to Brian today as he battled a 46 3/4lb King Mackerel on a 7ft Medium Fenwick Rod and Penn Conquer Reel spooled with Berkley 10lb smoke Fireline. We hooked up this monster King on a no. 6 gold treble hook rigged with 2inches of 30lb Malin wire and a 5in live pogie. Brian fought this king for about 25 min and his excellent skill combined with a little luck.... earned Brian a State Award and a fish of a lifetime on super light spin tackle! Congrats on all your fish today guys!

This morning I had a father/daughter onboard from "Up North." Excellent day! Both Matt and his daughter, Tracy, did an excellent job fighting the variety of fish we hooked up with today. We had dolphin, kings, and AJ's hooking up pretty consistently throughout the morning. All fish were caught on live 8in menhaden and light tackle. We had about 15 knockdowns today and landed 2 Kings, 2 Mahi, and AJ's before heading back to the dock around noon. Super day... Glad you folks enjoyed the fishing! ps. Hope that fighting arm is ok Tracy... ;)

5/28 Fun with the Flounder!

Left the dock this morning, Sat. May 28th with Rebecca Gray and family aboard celebrating her birthday, anniversary, memorial day, and more! They really wanted to catch a mess of flounder.... So, we took advantage of some decent weather and hit some nearshore live bottoms bouncing our Berkley Gulp Baits on my favorite bucktails. It wasn't long before we had those flatfish coming over the sides. Rebecca wasn't feeling very well but just kept fishing... she was a real trooper... she was rewarded with one of the larger flounder at 20in. and 3lbs. We wound up landing about 25 flounder and kept 11 from 1.5lbs to 4lbs. Unfortunately we pulled the hooks off the big fish about 25in/5lbs at the side of the boat... Oh well, I get'm next time. Great job today and congrats on all those great occassions you and your family were celebrating today!

5/23/2011 BLOWING But We Found A Few Reds!

I had the pleasure of fishing with a Husband/Wife team onboard late this afternoon. Dan R. and his wife moved here recently from Virginia and were wanting to learn a little about fishing inshore. Unfortunately, it was very windy but, truth is, that's what mother nature is going to throw at many folks on any given day you plan on going fishing... so, what do you do? Go fishing anyway and learn to work with Mother Nature. That's exactly what we did. I often find that no one is on the water with very windy days but, there are many places to hide from the wind or use the wind to our advantage. We did just that and eventually found areas holding reds. We landed a few purty reds and I got bit for the 2nd time in my life by a fish.... yep, only twice in my life... (knock on wood). minor bluefish bite... thank goodness that's all it was! Great afternoon and some purty fish for their Grill!

5/21/2011 2nd Place - Redfish Action Tournament Series

Team NCCharterfishing/Crystal Coast Graphics, Capt. Mike Taylor and myself, Capt. Jeff Cronk, fished the first tournament in the Redfish Action Redfish Series out of Beaufort, NC this past weekend. The weather was perfect and we had a rising tide all day. We didn't fish any schools of reds but, instead we fished a lot of little nooks throughout the marsh systems and managed to land about 12-15 redfish throughout the day. We were fortunate enough to have 4 of those fish that measured between 26 1/2in and 26 15/16in. Our largest two fish weighed in at 6.61 and 6.45 for a total aggregate weight of 13.01lbs and a second place finish. Cogratulations to the Tobin (father/son) team for their first place finish. This team has been fishing hard for the past few seasons and definately deserved a top finish! Great job! Crystal Coast Flounder Fishing!

I hit the water this afternoon for 4hrs with client Stuart C. and his good friend aboard. The wind was kicking but these were a couple seasoned fishermen and fished right through the conditions. We worked area after area and after 3hrs of fishing wound up landing 25 flounder of which we culled 12 nice sized fish up to 3.1lbs. All fish were caught on Berley Gulp Shrimp and bucktails.

5/14/2011 Redfish and Flounder Pounding! Come Fish the Crystal Coast!

This morning I had Josh B. (soon to be married - congrats!) and his friends onboard with some beautiful fishing conditions! We lucked out and the strong T-storms moved through about 4am and cleared out just before morning. We started out casting artificial baits for Redfish and.... the first stop produced 6 hookups. We landed a few and then moved on for another quick stop...and another awsome strike in some flooded grass. My client did the right thing... locked down on the drag to keep the red from going deeper into the grass... and that red went skyward.. awsome sight! We boated him and then realized the wind had laid down to complete "slick cam" conditions.... so, with our limit of reds already in the boat, we decided to go flounder hunting... we, ran out the inlet (staying close to the beach due to redfish onboard) and within 10 minutes began doubling down on flounder. We worked over the flounder for the next 3 hrs and were able to land close to 30 flatties from which we culled 13 keepers (most around 2 lbs, several at 3lbs, and one just over 3lbs). We releaed LOTS of Seabass over 12inches! I can't wait until June 1st and the opening of the Seabass Fishery..

5/12/2011 9 Cobia, 6 Giant Red Drum! Fishing the Crystal Coast!

Capt. Mike shot out the inlet this morning back in search of the "Brown Beast" after wearing them out yesterday afternoon running solo. They spent a couple hours working along with other boats on big bait balls close to the beach. Then, about mid-day they moved offshore and found some bait about a mile off the beach covered with big sharks. Just beyond the sharks were cobia on the surface and they spent the next couple hours catching and releaseing Cobia, Sharks, and to their surprise, 40 to 60lb Red Drum! They wound up landing 9 Cobia, 6 Giant Red Drum, and a bunch of big Sharks... Most of their Cobia bit Berkley Gulp Eeels on bucktails and Berkley Gulp Power Bait Eels.

Below are the baits we're using to target Cobia.... Berkley's 12in Pre-rigged Power Bait Eels.... a 3 to 4oz Bucktail tipped with Berkley Gulp's 10in Eel or the 7in Jerkshad. We're using 60 to 80lb flourocarbon as leader.

Mike shot out the inlet to take a quick joyride in the 26ft Yellowfin today around mid-day.... of course... he brought a couple rods just incase... he located some bait and started jigging and Wham! next thing he knew... he had several pods of 30 to 50+lb cobia at the back of the boat! He hooked up triples by himself... fought and landed all three...then battled and landed two more! That was followed by a 30lb Redfish! What a morning...and to think... he was taking a joyride with no passengers onboard... Ouch! Someone missed out today! Great Job Capt. Flat Out Fun! 5/3/2011

I had some regular clients onboard this morning. We fished the ocean for Summer flounder and had great success! The water temps ranged from 68 to 69 degrees and we found a few flounder on almost every spot we stopped on while jigging Berkley Gulp baits on Bucktails. My clients released a few and wound up with 22 keepers with the largest just under 5lbs. Great day with some very good fishermen!

I left the inlet around 8am with John Roberts onboard. We took advantage of a very nice weather day and ran offshore to check out the flounder bite. We fished about 5hrs and managed to land 30 flounder with 20 keepers. We kept 12 fish from 17in to 24in. Our heaviest two fish were right at 5lbs each. Redfish on TopWater! Fish'4life Charters, Morehead City, Swansboro, Emerald Isle

Had a great Redfish bite in Morehead City recently and Despite the horrible weather Sat. night... fishing turned out to be very good this weekend! My Clients and I managed a few very successful hours on the water. We caught 17 reds from 23in to 29in. on both Berkley Gulp baits and Top Water baits. I've only got a few open dates for the rest of April... I have April 25th-28th available for morning trips targeting Bonito, Ocean Flounder or Redfish and afternoons available for targeting just Redfish. Call asap as these dates will not last long.

4/2/2011 30+mph winds, 30+Redfish! Great Morning!

I left the dock this morning with Mark and Tripp onboard around 7am. The air temps were about 48 degrees but the winds started out around 15mph and quickly got up to 25-30mph quickly. We located several schools of reds that we were able to use the wind to our advantage to make long casts and stay as far as possible away from the schools. We tossed several differt Gulp Baits today with success on them all. We wound up catching and releasing 30 reds today with the largest at 33in (11.5lbs) and 32in (10lbs). We finally quit as we were taking spray over the stern while powerpoled down in shallow bays with 1.5ft chop slapping us! Rediculous winds... but great fishing and NO ONE out there today ;)

Wow! What a morning! I had Daniel Morris onboard for a few hours today. Despite the cooler temps we found plenty of action in the shallows. Today we covered miles of water and were rewarded with plenty of redfish to have fun with... We found 7 schools of reds and lost count of how many reds we caught and released. Great job today on the hook-ups Daniel!

Crystal Coast Sightfishing for Redfish is on FIRE!

Redfishing has been hot.... hit the water for a couple hours recently with Zack M. onboard. We located a couple schools of several hundred reds. We caught 12 in no time and left them biting so as not to wear their lips out too badly. Most fish were from 23in to 28in today and bit well on Gulp Pogies.

2/20/2011 Great Sightcasting for Reds!

I had a regular client and good friend wanting to do some redfishing today. We waited until the sun got up good and made our way to a few locations holding some good schools of reds. It was a very productive day as we found a school of 100 reds willing to eat. Caught fish ranging from 18in to 20in in this school before moving on to another school of about 1000 reds.

Jan 30th Sightcasting to Inshore Reds!

Shot out this morning for a short while with Zack M. to take advantage of the beautiful sunny, warm, slick calm morning. Our first stop and we were on a school of about 250 20 to 25in Reds in less than 1ft of water. We worked these fish for just a short while before several boat came in on top of us on the same school of fish... very annoying... too much boat pressure and trolling motor noise shut them off. We moved on and found another small pod of about 15 fish followed by a third school of about 30 fish. Most of the schools we found today were smaller schools but big reds of 24in to 26+in. A whole bunch of fun sighting them in about 1ft of absolutely Gin Clear water!

1/16/2011 Sightcasting to Shallow Water Reds!

Went out today for about 2-3hrs with Dion Lynn onboard. We had great conditions with less than 5mph winds, full sun, and the flats were warming quickly. Our first stop and we found several schools of 50 to 100 redfish. They weren't feeding to well but, we eased around them and powerpoled down in 14in of water and finessed them with very light jigheads and Berkley Gulp Jerkbaits. We managed to catch 6 from 18in to 23in. Later, we moved on to another creek and found a small pod of about 20 larger reds moving. We followed them for a few minutes until they came to rest on a corner and our first cast in them got us a hookup. This red was 24in. and it was absolutely an amazing sight in gin clear water. Today we were able to see most of our fish suck the baits off the bottom!

1/6/2011 Sightcasting Backwater Reds on Gulps and the Fly!

Gotta love the weather.... I had Dave. R. onboard this morning wanting to sightcast some redfish and hoping to catch one on his flyrod in the cold of January... We left the dock around 10am to allow the sun to get up good enough to be able to sight fish in the shallow backwater flats... Our first shore offered a chance at a pod of 30 pups from 15in to 25in. We stared at them and they stared back... they wouldn't eat our clousers but, we finally tossed a new penny gulp baitfish in the pocket and a 24in red slammed it and peeled out of the marsh. We moved on to another spot that had about a hundred pups and managed to pick up one but they also didn't want to chew.... we left the area and worked some shallow bays with the 25mph winds to our backs... and located a massive school of upper slot reds from 20in to 30in. and caught them non-stop for several hours on gulp baits... and Dave managed to land 3 pups on a copper/red clouser.

Striper Bite Continues!

Capt. Mike Taylor (252-725-2623)has been smacking down the Striper out of Oregon Inlet the past two weeks.... the last two trips have produced 30 to 40 striper per day from 10lbs to 30lbs. I fished with him two days and we caught fish on both Yozuri deep divers and mojo rigs. Lots of fun and some of the best eats! The new state record was set twice this week at Oregon Inlet.... 63lbs and then 64lbs the next day...

12/30-12/31 Reds and Black Drum!

Fished on Thursday 12/30 with David and his girlfriend... She'd never caught a redfish before and picked a chilly day to try! We left the dock at 8am with 29 degree temps and sunny skies. Made a long run and got into some good redfish. wound up landing about 30 reds for the day. No Trout today... but lots of fun!

Went back to the spot on Friday 12/31 armed with some secret bait.... and it payed off for today's crew (Mark W. and family). We released about 50 redfish, kept our 4 from 21in to 26in. along with 4 black drum from 3 to 4lbs and 3 sheepshead. Great morning on the water! Thanks Guys!

Winter Freeze! Great Bite! Backwater Trout and Reds!

12/18 - 12/22 The bite in the backwaters has been great despite the freeze. We fished 4 of the last 5 days with trout and reds on all trips. Sat produced 4 trout 2-4lbs, 6 puppy drum, and 1 black drum. Monday we had 16 Trout from 2lbs to 3lbs, 25 puppydrum (15 to 24in)... Tuesday was better on the pups with 9 trout from 1.5 to 3lbs, about 45 pups (15 to 23in), and 9 black drum. Wed we only had 2 speckled trout and about 25 pups (15 to 22in). Give us a shout if you want to get on the water after Christmas!

Brrrr.... Cold and Wet.... Well, all the trout didn't freeze... With the rain and wind, I cancelled my charter to the Jetty on Saturday and went exploring in the backwaters. I tried two areas and found a few fish. Wound up landing 4 very nice specks, a few redfish, and one black drum..... off the water around 9:30am... tired of getting... rained on... Alyssa was happy to see daddy brought some dinner home (after she got done playing with them).

Hello Folks, I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season and again thank everyone who supported Fish'4nlife Charters and Carolina Fishing TV this year. We've had another incredible year with over 200 days fishing. Thousands of catch and releases on Redfish and more flounder fillets than I can look back and count! The Black drum fishing was a little slow this year but the Spanish and King fishing was phenominal! Because of all of you who love fishing as much as I do, you make it possible for me to live my dream... guiding is a ton of work but, very rewarding for me because of my love of the water. When I'm not guiding, I'm fishing.... I dont' hunt, go on vacation, and even in the Winter months I'm on the water before daybreak most trips.... I Love This Stuff Like No One Else In This World... or maybe It's my addiction! Anyway, that being said.... if anyone would like to do some Serious Extreme Redfishing this December..... That's what Mike and I specialize in during the Winter Months.... Sightcasting to schools of hundreds to thousands of 25 to 30+ in Redfish.... with conditions excellent we usually put our clients on 50 to 75 or more redfish in a single trip... with average conditions usually 20 to 30 reds per trip. 12/4 Good Batch of Speckled Trout today in Swansboro

Tim Farless and his crew stepped onboard this morning at a chilly 36degrees about 8am this morning. We went straight for the shoals looking for some redfish. After a little searching we found one big school but quickly lost track of them. Unfortunately we had very little to no sun and the water clarity was just ok. That accompanied with just a little bit of swell and it was tough to locate or stay on any schools of reds so, we opted to move into the backwaters after some speckled trout. We got on a hole about 10am all by ourselves and culled through a bunch of small trout.... pulling out an occasional 2 to 2.5lber. Finished up the morning with 9 speckled trout.... eight from 2 to 2.5lbs and one at 3lbs. Great morning despite the change of plans.... good job Luke on that big trout on the mirrolure!

11/21/2010 Swansboro Extreme Redfishing - 75 Reds and trout too!

With today's beautiful forecast we decided to get a late start for a change.... we left dudley's around 7:30am and before hitting the whitewater reds we made one stop in a secret little hole.... boated about 25 trout in 15 min.... then, made our way to the inlet. The water clarity sucked today... but we found several areas holding reds. After picking off a few here and there... we got anchored up on a good school and spent the next few hours releasing fish from 24 to 30 in.... with non-stop double and triple hookups we made our way back to dudley's just after noon... It's funny... we complain when our arms are sore after working out in the gym... but, if we go fishing and come back barely able to lift our arms we're happy...

11/20/2010 Swansboro Trout and Redfish Galore!

Left early this morning with Randy Crews and his son, Jason. We hit a couple trout holes which produced about 50 specs with a few keeps and a 3lb black drum. With clear skys and calm seas we made our way to the shoals and almost instantly got onto a school of redfish and then another.... we sightcasted for a couple hours and were able to land about 30 reds from 24in to 30in. Jason is a tough little man and he never quit... drags screaming... waves slapping.... he kept hook'n em and land'n em! We had these fish blowing up on topwater baits very well today with surf temps at 63 degrees.

10/24 Another Awsome morning out of Swasboro

After such a great trip on Sat I had high hopes for today's trip with John C. and his crew aboard. After a couple stops and no trout we switched up to chasing those redfish. The sun was still low and it was difficult to sight the fish but, we made a few blind casts onto a favorite spot and it produced a 32in red and 33in. red. With the tide and water clarity not quite where we wanted it we made a short ride to some nearshore live bottom holding some grey trout and caught our limit in less than a half hour. We made that move back to searching for reds and after about 5 minutes of looking we struck Gold... or bronze... we cornered about 500 reds and had our way with them for over an hour landing 15 or more of these upper to over slot fish. My crew had a ball on these reds but, really wanted to try their luck at the flounder bite for the last hour of our morning. We headed back toward the inlet and stopped on our first flounder hole... less than 45min. later we had boated 9 flounder with 7 keepers from 2 to 3.5lbs. In the words of Mr. T and the A-Team (haa haa)... I love it when a plan comes together!

10/23 Inshore Slam Over and Over today

This morning I had regular client, Casey A. and his crew load up and we left around 7am. We started out the morning looking for specks and were fortunate enough to pick up a few up to 3.5lbs before heading toward Bogue Inlet to search out some shoaling redfish. About 1/2hr of searching and we located a big school of reds upwards of 1000 fish. They ranged from 24in to 34in and struck just about every Berkley Gulp bait we tossed at them before heading back inshore to try our luck on flounder before ending our morning. We spent about an hour on the flounder and landed 5 with 2 keepers about 2lbs each. Great morning! Great catch! Super job guys!

Fall Speckled Trout Fishing is ON!

I had a trip this weekend with regular client, Tommy Mcdaniels, from VA. The morning started out well with a few trout on our first stop. We moved on as the tide progressed and eventually got on an absolutely incredible bite. We wound up with a total of 25 Speckled Trout. 21 of them ranged from 1.75 to 3lbs each and most were caught on Berkley's Tequila Gold Powerbait Shrimp. This bait is no longer produced but.... it's always been one of the best artificial shrimp for stained clear water. i just happened to find one last pack in my collection of tackle. Folks, if you like this bait.... call you local tackle shop and request it.... heck, email me and i'll compile the requests and take it to my Sponsor, Berkley, myself. I'm already trying to get it back into production. It's a top producing color.

September has been very productive... both charters and tournament fishing. We've had alot of rain this week but, our first afternoon out on the water and first stop produced several big redfish.

8/31/2010 Great Afternoon on the water!

This afternoon I had Renee, her daugher Brooklynne, and her mother, Trish onboard for some inshore fun. It was a beautiful afternoon with light winds, sunny skies, and a little hot. We fished live shrimp and mullet minnows and achored down on a few good areas. We wound up landing a few reds and a few black drum, a few sharks, and bluefish... Then, we found an area holding 30-50ct shrimp and caught a bunch for them to cook up with the fish.
-great afternoon fishing and no one else around...

8/10-8/14 Fish'n4life Trip Photos FLOUNDER AND REDS!

8/14 We had a superb inshore bite today with Doyle T. and his sons. After scouring a few bays we got onto a good redfish bite and were able to land 8 reds from 21in to 27in. using Berkley Gulp Alive Pogies on jigheads. We hit some good areas for some serious shallow water flounder fishing and hooked up 15 flounder. We kept 4 from 2lbs to 3.75lbs. Unfortunately, we lost 3 flounder at the side of the boat today from 2.5lbs to 4+lbs.... and released 8 short fish. We cleaned up our fish around noon. Great job on the flounder Quint!

8/13 Spent a couple hours with Steve B. and his family doing some fish'n mixed up with a little eco-education.... This precious little girl had her first Redfish today which measured 26in along with a few sharks... We made a couple stops and loaded up on 40ct. shrimp and picked up 20 sharks teeth.

8/13 A few hours with the Daughtery crew onboard with perfect conditions for some nearshore jigging. We found plenty of flounder but, many small fish today. We landed about 25 and wound up with 7 keepers along with half a dozen seabass from 1 to 2.5lbs. A few sharks to add some excitement and it was an enjoyable morning. Thanks guys!

8/12 Brian and Evan Benoit toughed out the 4ft seas today to satisfy their need to feel a flounder thump a bucktail... Conditions kept most boats inside so we had some nearshore ledges to ourselves for a few hours. 4 hrs of jigging and we boated about 30 flounder with 9 keepers with the largest near 5lbs! A few seabass in the mix and we had a great morning and in by noon. Great Job Gentlemen!

8/11 Jeff White and son onboard this morning for some serious backwater fishing. First stop produced a 29in, drag smoking redfish and an awsome topwater hookup with a 3lb chopper blue. We moved on to our second spot and pulled 7 upper and over slot reds and 5 flounder off a shallow mud flat. Our third stop resulted in another flounder and 2 more upper slot reds. A great morning and back in time for lunch around noon. -Super job on the hookups today guys!

Son of Mike Toms stepped on for a quick afternoon trip before he heads off for Paris Island for boot camp. We spent 3hours searching for reds in some tough 20mph SW winds. We started slow and ended strong. Wound up landing 5 big reds and a 4lb blue over the course of 3hrs.

8/10 I enjoyed some backwater redfishing today with the Hackney crew. We scoured the shallow bays in the area and found some very nice reds. Wound up landing half a dozen reds and a handful of flounder and back to the dock around 11am. Great job guys!

8/8 Nearshore Flat Attack!

Casey, Ryan, and Robbie worked over the flounder today. We spent about 4hrs jigging... picking off a few at each stop... then finally got on a knot of fish and whacked them. We landed 26 flounder and kept 16 from 1.5lbs to 3+lbs. Great day with some great fishermen.

7/30 Almost 100 Flounder! New CFTV Episode

Today, Friday/July30th Capt. Mike and I filmed a new episode of CFTV. We shot our 2010 Ocean Flounder show with guests John Roberts and Folden Lee onboard. We fished a handful of hard bottoms and ledges inside of 5 miles. The action was non-stop and we wound up landing between 90 and 100 flounder as well as a ton of seabass, oyster toads, and sharks. July 26th -28th Nearshore Fun! Flounder, Grouper, AJ's

7/28 John M. and his son joined me today for a whackem, stackem, trip in the ocean today. We started out trying to put John's son on his first AJ for a lock down brawl! After tackling a few AJ's and a big Barracuda, we moved on to a nearshore ledge to double up on some grouper. Little man had never caught a grouper before today but.... he proved to be a good digger and cranked up a nice keeper. We landed 5 and kept their limit of two about 8lbs each. Then, we finished up the morning back toward the beach on some live bottom where we jigged up some Purrrrty flounder! John landed the largest flounder today at 4.5lbs and his son caught his largest to date at about 3lbs.

7/27 Johnny H. and wife finally got the weather we were looking for to target the ocean for some good action on the flat fish. We quickly grabbed some peanut pogies incase the Spanish bite was on.... but that bite turned out to be off today... so, we switched things up and started pounding the nearshore live/hard bottoms for flounder. We steadily picked away until the last hour and a half of the trip..... when we got into the flounder. It was steady strikes and landing plenty of fish, both shorties and keepers. We made our way back to the dock around noon nd layed out our catch. We wound up landing about 20 flounder with 10 from 1.5lbs to 4.5lbs and a big seabass. Great morning of fishing! Great work folks!

July 23/24 Inshore Reds and Nearshore Grouper!

7/23 I had a few hours to play today and headed out Bogue Inlet to check out a few nearshore numbers on the Grouper.... We fished about an hour and a half and had about a dozen hook-ups. some of the bigen's broke us off with the spin tackle but, we were able to get a couple 10 lbers up to the surface before moving on to dig a few big AJ's .

7/24 This morning client Jerry C. stepped aboard along with his father, Carl, and his son, John. Today was John's birthday and he really wanted to hunt down a big Redfish. Our first stop wasn't very eventful but, as we were easing through a second bay, we found a big school of reds and hooked one up before they blew out. John landed a 26in beautiful tournament redfish..... his largest to date.... until later in the morning when we picked up a few reds well up a narrow ditch. The birthday boy hooked up, fought, and landed a 29in redfish that would weigh in at 9lbs. Great fight, easy release! Super job on the reds today guys!

7/20/2010 Headed back out today around 11am for a few hours with Steve Cline and his crew from NY for a relaxing, educational Eco-tour. They chose to locate sharks teeth, catch clams, and cast net shrimp for today. We had a blast and found about 50 sharks teeth, 70 clams, and brought about 5lbs of shrimp back too. 7/20/2010 Bryant A. and his family hopped on this morning with overcast skys and a
15+mph SW wind yet another day.... Well, the first couple stops just wouldn't produce so, we switched everything up and began targeting Sheepshead. Within an hour and a half we had 10 sheepshead from 1 to 3lbs in our cooler along with 15 snapper blues. We fished hard and were rewarded with some food for the grill.... Back at the dock around 9:45am... and ready for an afternoon eco-tour.

7/19/2010 Tom Temple and his grandsons were back onboard again this season for some inshore fun around Swansboro.... Again, we left the dock this morning with gusty winds so strong that not even the 40fters could make it out the inlet for a 3rd day. That's the major advantage to fishing our bay boats... when it's calm with winds under 15mph we can fish the ocean with amazing results... and when it's downright BLOWING out... we're able to show our group a good time in the backwaters. A successful fishing trip is all about versatility. And... this morning the Temple group and I worked a couple spots and found an area we could fish using the wind to our advantage. These guys fished hard and landed 8 Redfish and had a few more hooked up. Then, the winds picked up to 20-25mph and we made our way to more protected waters where we boated a few flounder and a 4.1lb speckled Trout before heading back to the dock at noon.

7/17/2010 Today I fished with Tom Daughtery's group in a tough 15 to 25mph wind. We worked a grass flat for a few hours in the morning and wound up landing an overslot 28in red but, unfortunately we spooked the school of reds and couldn't get back on them. The wind really picked up so we moved to some protected waters and finished up with a few flounder and another slot redfish before heading back to the dock around 10am. Then, it was off to beach the boat with the family.

July15- Backwater Reds and Flounder.... Today I had my father, Tom Cronk, with me and we worked the backwaters hard till noon. We got into a good school of redfish and landed about 9 reds from 20in to 28in and then found some flounders working docks along the ICW and near the inlet. It's always good to be able to spend time with dad fishing. On Tuesday dad and I fished the ocean for Big Spanish Mackerel and shot an episode for Carolina Fishing TV which should air this Sunday.

7/12/2010 Cadmen group w/ Big Spanish and a Monster King!

Harry C. and his son, Griffin met me at the dock around 5:30am this morning and we set out to check out the nearshore bite. Griffin really wanted a chance at some Bigen's. Well, we were very fortunate today. From the time we dropped our lines in the water at 6:30am until we headed back to the dock around 11:30 we had steady strikes every 5 to 10 minutes. Griffin worked those rods and fought these big Spanish like a seasoned pro! They put 19 Spanish from 3 to 6lbs in the Cooler, released a few kings, and just before we headed back, Griffin hooked up a Big King on very light spin tackle. He battled this brute carefully for about 20 minutes and then the fish made a last 100yd run at which time a Barracuda clipped the last 15in off. The portion we kept was still about 24lbs. Great job today on your biggest Spanish and King to date Griffin!

Big Spanish Bite Continues!!!

7/8 Bill Snyder and Crew stepped onboard and we loaded down the livewell with a variety of pogies then, we set out for some good live bottom near Bogue Inlet. The bite started good and ended great! We had a consistent bite all day with hookups about every 5 minutes. No keeper King Mackerel today but we filled the cooler with 3 to 5.5lb Spanish.

Incredible Spanish/King Bite.... Monster Spanish! Pre-July 4th Fishing!

Is was a super calm morning. Myself and good friend/college buddy, David Krick, shot out Bogue Inlet in 17ft skiff and livewell full of 6in. Pogies. We found a good bite and finished up by noon with 18 Spanish Mackerel ranging from 4 ro 6lbs! We had another dozen or more strikes that pulled the hooks. Great morning!

7/2 - Capt Mike and I had Dr. Jack Cole and his group split up on two boats this morning. We started out working over the Spanish and Kings then, switched over to targeting flounder for a couple hours.. We wound up with several limits of 3 to 6lb Spanish and six kings with the largest at 15lbs. After two hours of flounder fishing we landed about 40 and kept 21 from 1.5 to 3lbs! Great day on the water and back to the dock by 1:00.

7/1 - This morning I hopped onboard with George Wiseman and his family to help him put some Summer Flounder on the deck of his new Bayrider. George just purchased a new 20fter which was plenty big enough for the ocean conditions today. We fished about three hours before the wind really picked up and were able to boat over 20 flounder with 10 keepers. The largest today was around 4lbs. Great job George!

6/30 - This morning Jamie A., his son, and his friend Joe stepped on and we dealt with some rough water in hopes to hookup with a few AJ's for his son to battle. Well, battle is what they did. After landing 6 brutes up to 40lbs and breaking off a few more, we opted to head closer to shore and find those flounder. It was tough jigging with 4ft seas but these guys stuck it out and landed about 15 flounder with 8 nice keepers and one close to a citation! Superb day despite the conditions.

Awsome Nearshore Fishing! Recent 6/18-6/23 Trips

Rob and Dianne with a great catch onboard for 6hrs. It was a ROUGH day but they toughed it out and it all payed off. They battled a 30lb AJ, 4 Barracuda, a 12lb Mahi, and then we jigged up 20 flounder and kept 11 from 1.5 to 3lbs. Great Job Guys!

Mike and Sam stuck it out for a quick afternoon trip in a strong SW blow. It was atough time so we modified our fishing and used the wind to our advantage. We wound up landing 4 sheepshead and 3 redfish before heading back to the dock. Good job on that 28in Redfish Sam!

Brian A. and his son of Virginia watched our new Amberjack episode on CFTV recently and really wanted to battle some of those Reef Donkeys so we started out with some serious lock down drags and these guys had a ball! We moved back nearshore and finished up with some 3 to 5lb spanish and also landed 18 flounder with 8 purrrty ones. These guys had two doormats! Very enjoyable day despite the 15 to 20mph winds.

WHAT A DAY! We had a big group today and split them between two boats. I had the crew of guys and we spent 6hrs working over 4 to 6lb Spanish Mackerel with very light spinning tackle. We were very fortunate today and landed a couple of big Kings including a 25.48lb King on 10lb test and a no. 6 gold treble! Unbeleivable fight! Great Job Ryan!

Today was HOT! I fished with Todd E's Group onboard and we targeted a variety of species from 2 miles to 10 miles. We had a steady bite throughout the day on all targeted species. We wound up landing 5 Kings with 3 keeps from 5 to 10lbs, 4 big spanish from 3 to 4.5lbs, 15 flounder with 6 keeps from 1.5 to 2.5lbs, dozens of seabass and kept 11 bigens from 1 to 3 lbs. a purty 3 lb. Trigger fish, several Almaco Jacks and even released a 23 1/2in grouper. A great day despite the extreme heat and no breeze! Thanks guys and great job today!

Fishing is On Fire! Reds, Big Spanish, Flounder and more!

Doug Jones and family were onboard this week for 6hours of fun with steady hook ups on 4 to 5lb Spanish Mackerel. We picked off one king with the Spanish before the bite shut down. We switched over to jigging flounder and wound up landing 11 flounder with 7 keepers in less then two hours. Great job today guys!

Dion Lynn hopped onboard for a quick 2hour afternoon trip and we were able to boat 16 flounder and kept 6 from 1.5 to 5 lbs. All fish struck Berkley Gulp Shrimp fished on a 2oz. bucktail. This action should continue all Summer... Call today to make reservations.

Swansboro Sheepshead June 04 Afternoon Trip

This afternoon Jay and Jeannie Shulze hopped onboard and we made our way out hoping to find a few redfish before switching over to sheepshead fishing. Our second stop produced a beautiful tournament redfish at exactly 27in on both sides and we moved on trying to avoid a late afternoon storm. We switched over to sheepshead fishing and spent the next 2 1/2hrs burning through the fiddler crabs. We managed to land about 17 sheepshead and kept 14 from 3/4lb to 1.5lbs Great job on all those hook ups Jeannie!

Alyssa Cronk's 1st Sheepshead!

I took my daughter, Alyssa, out fishing for about an hour one weekday afternoon this week and at 2 1/2yrs old she has just added another fish to her list of succesful catches. She caught 4 sheepshead on her new Barbie Rod! She's now got a 26in redfish, 14in Flounder, and 1.5lb Sheepshead on that list. She is absolutely excited about fishing! Whew.... thank goodness for that.

6/1/2010 Sheepshead Bite Continues!

The sheepshead bite continues with plenty of 1 to 3lb fish around. The larger fish are there but it's hard to get through all the smaller fish. The last two trips we've used up several hundred fiddlers in a couple hours of fishing. Stop by Dudley's Marina in Swansboro if you need live fiddlers. Today I had one of Dudley's employee's (Zack) on as we scouted out some new spots. We fished from 3:30-6:30 and landed about 30 sheepshead from 3/4lb to 2.5lbs. Also picked up a 4lb black drum. Most sheepshead were caught on the bottom using live fiddler crabs.

5/2/2010 Flat Out Fun! 5lb 5 1/2oz Citation Flounder!

I left the dock early in the am with the Woodall crew onboard and we were'nt sure whether to hit the ocean or stay inside due to the wind forecast.... But, with winds only 10mph and seas only 2 to 3ft we decided to break the inlet and look for early season Summer Flounder. turns out the winds didn't pick up until noon and we spent most of the day moving from spot to spot, bouncing our Gulp baits on top of our flat friends in 45 to 60ft of water. Wound up landing about 26 Flounder with 16 very nice size keepers... most were between 2 and 3lbs with a few over 3lbs and the largest went to Charles today with a Citation Flounder at 5lbs 5 1/2oz. We picked up a few Seabass to mix in and even saw 11 Sunfish today from 300lbs to 400lbs... One skyed across our bow missing our trolling motor by less than 10ft! Great Job Guys!

Bonita and Flounder

Fished yesterday with Keven Duffy and his son Kieran. We left the dock at 5:30 heading towards New River inlet to catch the early morning Bonita bite. The morning started out surprising slow but with thick cloud cover the bite picked up around 8am. After boating 4 out of 7 Bonita we ran back towards Bogue inlet and immediately got onto a good Flounder bite. We put 11 nice ones in the boat and decided to call it the day.

Fishing is good! Recent trip Photos

What a change! Just a month ago we had extreme cold air and water temperatures and it seemed like Winter was never going to end. Now, late April has brought water temperatures in the mid 60's along the beaches and temperatures exceeding 70 degrees in the backwaters. Along the Crystal Coast there are plenty of Sea Mullet, Grey Trout, Spots and more in the ICW and around the River mouths. It seems like every redfish has moved from the surf to the skinny backwaters. We're finding a lot of small to decent sized Southern Flounder around creek mouths on Falling tide along with some 1/2lb to 3+lb Speckled Trout. There are massive schools of Cow Nose Rays scouring the flats and the bluefish are beginning to show up around the inlets..... Our nearshore waters are teaming with albacore, Bonito, Summer Flounder, Seabass, Tautogs, Ringtails, and more! It's onfire! The weather has been amazing for April! If you haven't spent some time on the water... you need to....

Zack M. and John W. got back to the dock at Dudley's this afternoon with a 53lb Black Drum caught while sightcasting to redfish in the shallows! This fish struck a Berkley Gulp Bait fished on an 1/8oz jighead on light spinning tackle! Great Job Guys!

Got a call last week from some regular clients of mine, Jimmy Bishop ("AKA" Flounder Pounder) and Mich Philips, they wanted to know if the Flounder had showed up yet. My answer was that we need to go and find out. All that I can say was that we CRUSHED them! Through out the day we had multiple hookups and even some triples. At the end of the day we had our limit of 24 Keeper Flounder, 19 Sea Bass, and one nice Tautog. Three of the Flounders weighed over 4lbs and 8 others that weighed in at 3lbs. We caught all the fish on 2oz Spro Buck Tails with 4 inch Gulp Shrimp. I have been catching good numbers of Reds in the back waters this week and the Bonito have also showed up in good numbers. Still have some dates open this week. The BITE is on!!

4/17/2010 Super Shallow Redfish!

This morning I had John M. and his son Brian onboard for some scouting for redfish. It was a tough morning with super low tides and strong winds but these guys stuck it out and it all payed off. We eased into some super shallow water and found some fish. We wound up landing 6 Redfish, had a couple more pull the hooks, and had a few strikes on topwater baits. We caught fish on Berkley 5in Jerk Shad and Zoom Super Fluke. Good job today guys!

Hungry Redfish!

I went scouting for a few hours today and found plenty of Redfish throughout the backwaters. Everything I found was hungry! They were cruising the banks and destroying any baits in their path... almost every cast produced a strike. It's on!

Hello folks, We got some great footage recently for an upcoming show of Carolina Fishing TV. I had one of CFTV's Preferred Guides, Capt. Mike Pederson, onboard with me. After a lot of searching we found some serious schools of Spring Albacore. We caught them on topwater baits, Maria Jigs, Stingsilvers, leadhead/soft baits.... it was non-stop action for several hours. Great day on the water and hopefully some great footage for an upcoming show to air on Carolina Fishing TV.

4/6/2010 Albacore Blitz! Bogue Inlet

My father is in town and the wind wasn't too bad when we left the dock this morning. So, we took the light tackle and made a run for the inlet. We had a 10mph SW wind and we barely made it past the last red/green out of the inlet before we were on top of school after school of Albacore. There was a non-stop blitz for several hours and they were hitting just about everything we tossed. We even had them pouncing topwater baits with a vengence. The action should continue for the next couple weeks.

April Reds!

This morning we spent some time searching for reds. Dave and his two daughters never quit and all of our efforts payed off. We found a bay holding some 23 to 25in Reds. April has sure handed us some beautiful weather to start out spring 2010.
